Govt. Allocates Rs. 6705 crores for ICDS Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) have been provided with Rs.6705 crores in the budget outlay for 2009-10. The provision comprises prerequisite towards center aid to the states for additional nutrition, prerequisites for Kishori Shakti Yojana and for Anaganwadi Karyakarti Bima Yojana. Amidst the entire allotment, Rs.678.70 crores has been wholly reserved for north-east region for the execution of the proposal.
ICDS, the biggest intervention service in the globe for the wellbeing of kids and women offers an incorporated package of health, nutrition as well as learning services to children, in the age group of 0-6 years, as well as expectant and lactating mothers. The package comprises additional nourishment, vaccination, health checkup, referral services, diet, health education and non-formal pre-school learning.
The Government has approved 13.56 lakhs Anganwadi centers till March 31, 2009. Over 8.60 lakh children and lactating mothers were obtaining additional nourishment at these Anganwadies. Pre-school learning is a vital component of ICDS services. 3.30 crore children including 1.58 crore girls (as on 31.3.09). were registered at the Anganwadies for pre-school learning.

For A Noble Cause Established in 1998 with only twenty members associated with its activities, Friends Social Welfare and Cultural Association has emerged as a significant force in social welfare in South Kolkata. The Association has earned the reputation of being associated with a number of major social welfare activities that have been of great help for the destitute and downtrodden. Presently Friends Social Welfare and Cultural Association has embarked on a noble mission to raise funds for the treatment of Aniruddha Das who is suffering from Limfoma. Friends Social Welfare and Cultural Association undertook the effort to send Aniruddha Das to Vellore. Thanks to their effort Aniruddha’s suffering is not as painful as before. The organization also distributes books on a regular basis among the poor but meritorious students so that they can carry their academic activities further. Recently Friends Social Welfare and Cultural Association organized a blood donation camp on 24.2.09. The organization plans to organize a Cultural Soiree at Madhusudan Mancha on 30.5.09 in aid of the needy and the destitute.
